Tesla’s humanoid robot is still under development, but it could be available for purchase by the end of next year, according to CEO Elon Musk on Tuesday. On Tuesday, Elon Musk, Tesla’s CEO, stated that the company’s humanoid robot is now being developed and might be ready for purchase by the end of next year. While information regarding the robot is still scarce, Musk’s comment demonstrates Tesla’s determination to broaden its product range beyond electric vehicles and into robotics. With the eventual deployment of a humanoid robot, Tesla hopes to strengthen its position as a pioneer in innovative technology and automation. However, like with any new product development, it is still being determined how customers will regard Tesla’s humanoid robot and how it will affect other businesses.
Several corporations have been betting on humanoid robots to fill labour shortages and do repetitive work that may be dangerous or tedious in logistics, warehousing, retail, and manufacturing. Musk told investors on a conference call that he expected the Tesla robot, Optimus, to be able to do manufacturing jobs by the end of the year. Japan’s Honda and Hyundai Motor’s Boston Dynamics have been developing humanoid robots for several years.
Figure, a Microsoft and Nvidia-backed business, announced extensive cooperation with German manufacturer BMW
This year, Figure, a Microsoft and Nvidia-backed business, announced an extensive cooperation with German manufacturer BMW. The alliance intends to integrate humanoid robots into BMW’s production operations in the US. BMW aims to improve production efficiency and productivity by combining sophisticated technology and robotics. This innovative endeavour exemplifies the growing trend of incorporating automation and artificial intelligence into traditional industrial processes to improve workflows and operations. As Figure collaborates with BMW, the initiative can potentially change the future of automotive manufacturing, laying the groundwork for other industries to adopt cutting-edge robotics technologies. The Figure, a Microsoft and Nvidia-backed firm, announced this year that it had partnered with German manufacturer BMW to deploy humanoid robots at the company’s US factory.
Elon Musk’s Statement on Tesla Optimus Robot
Billionaire Elon Musk has previously stated that robot sales may become a more significant portion of Tesla’s business than other areas, including automobile manufacturing. “I think Tesla is best positioned of any humanoid robot maker to be able to reach volume production with efficient inference on the robot itself,” Musk said on the Tuesday call, referring to the company’s artificial intelligence capabilities.
Musk has a history of failing to keep his big promises to Wall Street. In 2019, he promised investors that Tesla would have a network of “robotaxi” self-driving cars by 2020.
Tesla launched the first generation of their Optimus robot, Bumblebee, in September 2022. This year, the business released a video of a second-generation bipedal robot folding a T-shirt at its factory. Figure’s video of its 01 robot, released in February, shows it is pouring coffee. Boston Dynamics recently presented an electric platform for their Atlas humanoid robot, which was seen twisting and rotating from lying down to standing and walking.
