OpenAI has announced that the founder and CEO of Statsig Vijay Raji will be joining the company as the CTO of Applications. The move has been announced after the OpenAI acquired Statsig, a modern product development platform company. “Vijay Raji, founder and CEO of Statsig, will join OpenAI as CTO of Applications to lead engineering for ChatGPT & Codex, following the acquisition of Statsig. This expands our Applications leadership as we build safe, useful AI products at scale,” said the company in a statement.
Raji would be reporting to Fidji Simo, CEO of Applications at OpenAI. “Vijaye has a remarkable record of building new consumer and B2B products and systems at scale. He’s joining at a time when our models are opening entirely new ways to build, and his leadership will help turn that progress into safe applications that empower people with many new tools to improve their lives, help companies increase their impact and allow developers to build faster and better products,” said Fidji Simo, CEO of Applications, OpenAI.

Vijay Raji, who did his Bachelors in Engineering from the University of Pondicherry, has been in the technology industry for over two decades. Prior to founding Statsig, Vijaye Raji spent over a decade at Facebook, where he served in multiple leadership roles, including Vice President and Head of Entertainment (Apr 2019 – Feb 2021) and Vice President and Head of Gaming (Oct 2017 – Apr 2019). He also led Facebook Seattle from Aug 2015 to Feb 2021, overseeing its growth from a small team to over 5,000 employees and expanding the office footprint from a single building to more than 16 across Seattle and Bellevue.

During his tenure, Raji played a key role in developing Facebook Video (Live, Watch, Music, Sports, Infrastructure) and Facebook Gaming (Live, Instant Games, Cloud Gaming, Gameroom), uniting hundreds of millions of gamers worldwide. Before joining Facebook, he worked at Microsoft for nearly 10 years (May 2001 – Feb 2011) as a Principal Software Design Engineer, contributing to projects such as Windows Application Framework, SQL Server Modeling Language/Runtime, Visual Studio Editor, and Microsoft TV.
He then went on to found Statsig in 2021, an all-in-one platform for product growth that helps businesses leverage data to ship faster and build better products.
