Personal Cooling is the Future: Kulpreet Sahni, Founder and CEO, Chiltier

As temperatures rise and energy efficiency becomes a growing concern, and innovative solutions in personal cooling are gaining attention. In this conversation with Tech Achieve Media (TAM), Kulpreet Sahni, Founder and CEO of Chiltier, shares insights into his patented cooling technology, its applications, and the vision behind building a global brand from India.

TAM: To begin with, could you tell us a little about Chiltier and what you do?

Kulpreet Sahni: I am Kulpreet Sahni, Founder and CEO of Chiltier, and also the inventor of this patented product. It has been developed in India, will be made in India, and is designed for the global market. Our core idea is simple, which is rather than trying to cool the entire environment, it is far more efficient to regulate the temperature of the human body itself. That is the fundamental philosophy behind Chiltier.

TAM: Who is Chiltier created for? What is your target audience?

Kulpreet Sahni: The product is essentially for anyone who experiences heat stress. My background is in ship design and shipbuilding, where I’ve seen firsthand how extreme heat environments, like engine rooms or open decks, impact performance. On a personal note, I’m also a golfer, and outdoor activities made me realise the lack of effective personal cooling solutions. That’s where the idea originated. Today, the product is designed for a wide audience right from everyday users seeking better sleep to professionals and athletes who need performance optimisation in high-heat conditions.

TAM: Can you explain the technology behind your product and what makes it unique?

Kulpreet Sahni: Unlike traditional air conditioning, which relies on compressors and complex mechanisms, our solution uses a solid-state cooling system with minimal moving parts. We’ve also developed highly conductive tubing that is about 50 times more conductive than silicone, allowing efficient heat transfer. When connected to our thermopod, users can actively regulate their body temperature. This creates a personal microclimate, meaning two individuals, even under the same blanket, can maintain different temperatures comfortably.

TAM: What kind of applications or use cases are you seeing for this product?

Kulpreet Sahni: The applications are quite broad. Anyone who owns a bed can benefit from improved sleep quality. Beyond that, cyclists, motorcyclists, and even extreme athletes like triathletes can use it to enhance performance and endurance. We’ve seen that better thermal regulation leads to less fatigue, reduced sweating, and improved overall comfort.

TAM: What kind of R&D has gone into developing this solution?

Kulpreet Sahni: We have a strong in-house R&D team, given my background in engineering and design. This product has been in development for several years. Additionally, we’ve partnered with Thermostats Technologies, a Pune-based company, for specific components like heat extraction. So, it’s very much a ‘Made in India’ innovation, built through collaboration.

TAM: You are planning to go mainstream soon. How are you preparing for scale and manufacturing?

Kulpreet Sahni: Yes, we are gearing up for large-scale manufacturing. In fact, we are signing an MoU with a major contract manufacturing partner, and we expect to begin deliveries around August. Having built and exited businesses before, I’ve been very particular about ensuring everything, from product readiness to supply chain, is in place before going to market.

TAM: What kind of response have you received from early adopters?

Kulpreet Sahni: The response has been overwhelmingly positive. We’ve seen strong interest and engagement, and more than 90% of feedback has been encouraging. It’s very rewarding, especially after years of development, to see people genuinely appreciate the product.

TAM: Beyond the current offerings, what does your product roadmap look like?

Kulpreet Sahni: We are building an entire ecosystem around personal thermal regulation. In addition to cooling beds and vests, we are working on products like cooling helmets, gloves, boots, blankets, and even couches. The idea is to give users the flexibility to carry their cooling system with them, rather than relying on energy-intensive air conditioning across multiple spaces. For a country like India, where energy efficiency is critical, this approach also supports better demand management.

TAM: Finally, what is your larger vision for Chiltier?

Kulpreet Sahni: Our vision is to create a globally recognised brand from India that redefines how people experience comfort. We believe personal cooling is the future, and not just for convenience, but also for sustainability and efficiency.
