In an effort to democratize access to transformative digital education, Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced a $100 million commitment to help underserved students gain critical skills in AI, cloud computing, and literacy. This initiative, launched as part of the AWS Education Equity Initiative, aims to empower underrepresented communities worldwide through cutting-edge technologies and innovative learning solutions.
Transforming Education Through Technology
The $100 million fund, provided in the form of cloud credits over the next five years, will enable qualifying education organizations to develop and scale digital learning tools. By leveraging AWS’s extensive portfolio of cloud technologies and advanced AI services, organizations can create impactful educational innovations like AI-driven teaching assistants, coding curriculums, mobile apps, and chatbots. Recipients will also receive hands-on support from AWS Solution Architects, who will offer expert guidance on building resilient, scalable, and responsible AI-powered solutions.
Global Impact Through Strategic Partnerships
AWS is already collaborating with over 50 organizations across 10 countries to implement transformative educational initiatives. Notable examples include:
- Code.org (United States): Using AWS cloud credits to expand its AI Teaching Assistant, Code.org enables educators to assess students’ coding projects 50% faster, freeing up valuable time for personalized instruction. Powered by Amazon Bedrock, this tool enhances the efficiency of AI-driven teaching support.
- Rocket Learning (India): By integrating AWS’s Amazon Q in QuickSight, this nonprofit analyzes video and WhatsApp-based educational content to optimize early-childhood learning outcomes. Tailored for diverse linguistic and cultural contexts, the program is enhancing education accessibility for underserved children.
- Tangible Africa (Sub-Saharan Africa): Scaling its offline coding curriculum via AWS, this initiative is set to reach 10,000 students and 120 teachers across Ghana, Kenya, Uganda, and Zambia, equipping learners with vital coding skills in areas with limited internet access.
Expanding Education and Career Pathways
The AWS Education Equity Initiative builds on AWS’s long-standing commitment to advancing STEM education and career opportunities. Through programs like Amazon Future Engineer, which delivered over 17 million hours of STEM education to more than 2 million students last year, and the AI and ML Scholarship Program, which has awarded $28 million in scholarships to 6,000 students, AWS has consistently championed equitable education access.
