Apple iPhone 17 Series To Be Launched in September: Expected Features

Apple is preparing to unveil its next-generation smartphones, the Apple iPhone 17 lineup, in September 2025, featuring two major variants: the iPhone 17 Pro Max and a new slimmed-down model, the iPhone 17 Air, apart from the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro. The devices are expected to showcase a combination of hardware improvements and performance enhancements, while introducing Apple’s latest chipsets and connectivity technology.

The iPhone 17 Pro Max will reportedly feature a 6.9-inch OLED display with a 120Hz ProMotion refresh rate, placed in an aluminum and glass body. The smartphone is being powered by Apple’s new A19 Pro chip and includes 12GB of RAM. For the first time, Apple is expected to integrate “Apple Intelligence” capabilities, its take on on-device smart features, with the new chip. The Pro Max also gets a camera upgrade, with a 24MP front camera and a triple-lens rear setup, each with 48MP sensors. In addition to this, it adds support for 8K video recording, vapor chamber cooling, and dual video capture. Connectivity upgrades include a Wi-Fi 7 chip and an estimated 5,000 mAh battery. Fast wireless charging will also be supported with an improved 50W MagSafe system. The iPhone 17 Pro comes with all the features of the Pro Max but in a more compact form factor, featuring a smaller 6.3-inch OLED display, state leaked reports on the features of the smartphone.

As far as the standard iPhone 17 is concerned, it will retain key features while offering a more accessible option. The phone sports a 6.3-inch OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and an aluminum frame. It is powered by the A19 chip and features 8GB of RAM along with Apple Intelligence integration. The camera setup includes a 48MP main sensor using Apple’s Fusion technology, a 12MP ultra-wide camera, and a 24MP front camera. It will also include Apple-designed Wi-Fi 7 connectivity and support for 50W MagSafe wireless charging, offering a balanced mix of performance and efficiency.

Apple is also rumoured to introduce the iPhone 17 Air, a lighter and thinner device aimed at users seeking portability without sacrificing performance. At just over 5.5mm thin, the iPhone 17 Air features a 6.6-inch OLED display with 120Hz ProMotion. Like its larger variant, it runs on the A19 Pro chip and comes with 12GB RAM and Apple Intelligence integration. However, the Air model pares down other features: it includes a single earpiece speaker, a 24MP front camera, and a single 48MP wide rear camera. The phone is expected to use Apple’s in-house C1 modem and a new Wi-Fi chip. It will ship without a SIM card tray, pointing toward a full transition to eSIM-only connectivity. The battery is a more modest 2,800mAh, though it retains 50W MagSafe fast charging.

In terms of design, Apple is reportedly working on a special color variant for the iPhone 17 Pro inspired by the new Liquid Glass aesthetic introduced in iOS 26. The finish is said to be a dynamic white that subtly shifts hues depending on the light and viewing angle, thus aiming to add a fresh visual identity to the Pro series. Apple has not officially confirmed the specifications or the launch date, but the company’s September event has traditionally served as the annual platform for major iPhone announcements.
