BPCL Issues Statement on LPG Gas Cylinders Shortage, Supply to be Reinstated to Non-Domestic Sectors

The Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, which is the Indian public sector oil and gas company headquartered in Mumbai, has issued a statement on the ongoing LPG gas cylinders shortage issue. The organisation has taken cognisance of the issue and has stated that it was working towards combating the shortage. BPCL has stated that it will ensure that, along with domestic sectors, non-domestic sectors will also be supplied with gas.

“In light of current geopolitical disruptions to fuel supply and constraints on supply of LPG, Ministry has taken the step for higher LPG production and securing it for supplying to domestic customers. Along with ensuring supplies to all domestic customers, it has been decided to make supplies as per requirement to the essential non domestic sectors such as hospitals, educational institutions, and so on,” reads a statement from BPCL. The hospitality sector has been hit by LPG gas cylinders shortage, with several restaurants claiming that they would have to close operations within two days.

“For LPG supply to other non-domestic sectors, a committee of three Executive Directors of Oil Marketing Companies have been constituted to review the representations and prioritise the LPG supply,” adds the statement while sharing the email addresses of the members who would be looking into the requests. The contact details are as follows:

    • K Sailendra, Indian Oil Corporation Limited – indanecareho@indianoil.in
    • TV Pandiyan, Bharat Petroleum Corporation – edlpg@bharatpetroleum.in
    • Dhruv Kapil, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation – lpg.sbu.head@hpcl.in

BPCL has further added: “In case of any requirement which are considered as essential in other sectors, a submission can be made to the committee through the above email ids. Since non-domestic LPG supply depends on the availability of imported products, the committee may not be able to address every grievance. Requests will be considered based on their merits, product availability and appropriate decisions will be made accordingly.”

BPCL had earlier stated that they had sufficient supply of oil and petrol, and had urged the public not to panic. “Rumours are circulating on social media claiming that the closure of the Strait of Hormuz could disrupt petrol and diesel supply in India and urging people to rush to fuel stations to fill their tanks. This claim is completely misleading. India has adequate fuel reserves and is fully equipped to handle any short-term global disruptions. We also have alternative supply sources that do not depend on the Strait of Hormuz. We request everyone not to believe such rumours or crowd fuel stations unnecessarily. Please rely only on official sources for accurate information,” read the statement.
