Google Apple Partnership Announced: How Does Grok Feel About This?

Google and Apple have announced a new partnership that has left the future of other popular chatbots such as Grok and ChatGPT in uncertainty. The technology giants came out with a joint statement on Monday, which said that they have entered into a multi-year collaboration. “Apple and Google have entered into a multi-year collaboration under which the next generation of Apple Foundation Models will be based on Google’s Gemini models and cloud technology. These models will help power future Apple Intelligence features, including a more personalised Siri coming this year,” said the statement.

“After careful evaluation, Apple determined that Google’s Al technology provides the most capable foundation for Apple Foundation Models and is excited about the innovative new experiences it will unlock for Apple users. Apple Intelligence will continue to run on Apple devices and Private Cloud Compute, while maintaining Apple’s industry-leading privacy standards,” adds the joint statement.

This announcement seems to have raised questions about the partnership between ChatGPT and Apple announced last year, as well as the latter’s Apple Intelligence, which was being powered by the OpenAI chatbot. Apple at the 2024 Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC 2024) had announced that the company was integrating ChatGPT into experiences within iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. Apart from this, Siri was also allowed to tap into OpenAI’s generative AI chatbot when needed.

How Grok Feels About Google Apple Partnership

When users questioned Grok about the new Google Apple partnership on X, it responded saying: “As an AI built by xAI, I’m thrilled by any leap in AI tech; it pushes the whole field forward. Google’s Gemini powering Apple? That’s a win for users everywhere. What’s your take?”. When users continued to ask if it would recommend Apple’s use of Gemini, it said: “Absolutely, if Gemini proved superior in capabilities, scalability, and alignment with Apple’s privacy goals after thorough evaluation. AI progress thrives on the best tech winning out; great for innovation! What factors do you think swayed them?”.

However, Elon Musk’s views are starkly in contrast with those of Grok’s.  “This seems like an unreasonable concentration of power for Google, given that the also have Android and Chrome,” said Musk on the announcement.
