The much-awaited India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2024 commenced today at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, with a grand inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This year’s event, themed ‘The Future is Now’, is a massive showcase of India’s position at the forefront of technological innovation, hosting thousands of companies that are demonstrating cutting-edge products and solutions. The theme, unveiled in July 2024 by the Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region, Jyotiraditya M Scindia, highlights India’s pivotal role in the ongoing technological revolution.

In his opening remarks, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the transformative impact of India’s telecom sector on the global stage. “India’s strides in the world of telecom are a global case study. For us, this sector is not merely about connectivity – it is about equity and opportunity,” he said. He further underscored the ‘Digital First’ approach adopted by India, which has empowered various sectors and fostered inclusivity and innovation. “India has leveraged the power of technology to further women empowerment, making our future technically strong and ethically grounded,” Modi added.

A key highlight of the event was the speech by Akash Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited, who spoke passionately about the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI). “AI is the most revolutionary tool of transformation invented by the human mind. It will disrupt every aspect of our lives, society, and economy, ushering in an era of unimaginable abundance and efficiency,” said Ambani. He outlined Jio’s vision of making AI accessible to all Indians, stating that under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, India should urgently adopt AI with a holistic strategy driven by self-reliance (Atma Nirbhar Bharat).

Ambani shared insights on how AI could reshape critical sectors such as manufacturing and agriculture, enabling India to emerge as a New-Age Factory and Services Centre for the world. He further announced Jio’s commitment to democratizing AI across the nation by offering affordable AI models and services, while laying the foundation for a national AI infrastructure.

Adding to the momentum, Kumar Mangalam Birla, Chairman of the Aditya Birla Group, took the stage to reflect on India’s evolving telecom landscape. He highlighted the role of Vi (Vodafone Idea) in transforming small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) through 5G, IoT, AI, and cloud technologies. “At Vi, we’re helping MSMEs break barriers and access new markets through our Vi Business ReadyForNext program, making over 1.6 lakh MSMEs future-ready,” Birla remarked. He envisioned a future where augmented and virtual reality seamlessly integrate into daily life, reaffirming Vi’s dedication to driving India’s digital growth and empowering small businesses to thrive.
