IIT Kanpur, one of the most premier Indian Institutes of Technology, has managed to secure a rank of second domestically, and rank 36 globally in the prestigious QS World University Rankings 2024 in the data science and artificial intelligence category. The QS World University Rankings is a collection of comparative college and university standings meticulously compiled by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), a prominent firm specializing in higher education analytics.
“Proud moment as we debut at 2nd rank in domestic and 36th in global in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence category of QS World University Rankings 2024, while being in the top 100 global universities in four subjects in the recently announced subject wise rankings. Our constant academic, research, and innovation endeavours have made us one of the pioneers in the country in the fields of Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering & Technology, and Natural Sciences. IIT Kanpur is also vigorously advancing its AI-driven initiatives in the fields of MedTech, Aerospace, Sustainability, and other Emerging Technologies through strategic collaborations with both public and private entities,” said IIT Kanpur on being rewarded this recognition.
Underlining its dedication to advancing AI-driven initiatives, IIT Kanpur has forged strategic partnerships with both public and private entities. A notable collaboration includes a five-year memorandum of understanding with Samsung R&D Institute, Noida. This partnership aims to foster joint research projects involving IIT Kanpur students, faculty, and Samsung engineers, thereby facilitating industry-aligned skill development.
Furthermore, IIT Kanpur is expanding its AI-driven endeavors through its upcoming Medical School, in collaboration with the Government of Uttar Pradesh, to enhance telemedicine using AI. Last year, the institute also joined forces with e-commerce giant Moglix to drive innovation and entrepreneurship in artificial intelligence.
Apart from this, IIT Kanpur has maintained its 5th position in Engineering and Technology in India, achieving a global QS rank of 93 in 2024. In Computer Science, it climbed from 96 to 84, ranking 3rd nationally, while in Electrical Engineering it remains at 96, holding the 5th position in India.
