Acronis Solutions Empower Business Resilience: Prashant Mudbidri, Director, Logix InfoSecurity

At the Acronis Partner Summit India 2024, held on 13 November in Mumbai, Tech Achieve Media had the opportunity to speak with Prashant Mudbidri, Director of Logix InfoSecurity. With over 25 years of experience in the IT services industry, Logix InfoSecurity has built a strong reputation for delivering comprehensive backup and disaster recovery (DR) solutions. As a trusted partner of Acronis, the company continues to empower customers with robust data protection strategies and business continuity solutions. In this insightful conversation, Prashant shared his thoughts on the evolving IT landscape, the critical role of backup solutions, and how Acronis empowers businesses to stay resilient in the face of modern challenges.

TAM: Would it be possible to share if you were using any data protection and email security services prior to Acronis? If yes, What factors led you to consider switching from your previous vendor to Acronis?

Prashant Mudbidri: Yes, we did explore other solutions, but if you look at the current IT landscape, most customers have shifted from on-premise setups to the cloud. Traditional solutions were primarily designed for on-premise environments. During this transition to the cloud, Acronis emerged as the best-fit solution because it offers cloud-based capabilities, which customers now prefer, especially for cloud-to-cloud backups. Additionally, Acronis provides a hybrid model, allowing customers to maintain a copy of their backup on-premise, ensuring flexibility and added security.

TAM: What specific needs led you to adopt Acronis Advanced Backup, and M365?

Prashant Mudbidri: One of our core business practices is selling and supporting customers on Office 365. Naturally, this leads to the question: how do you ensure data protection for Office 365? What happens if a customer loses data on the platform? To address these concerns, we began promoting Acronis as a backup solution specifically for our Office 365 customers. Additionally, with many customers moving their workloads to the cloud, there’s a growing need for a backup solution that operates outside their native hosting platform. This is where Acronis came in, providing the perfect solution. That’s how we integrated it into our offerings.

TAM: How do each of these Acronis solutions benefit your daily operations?

Prashant Mudbidri: Security is paramount—it’s an absolute necessity. Every customer and every workload needs a “life jacket” because IT environments are constantly evolving. In particular, with the alarming rise in ransomware attacks, customers are increasingly vigilant, wondering how to prepare for unexpected incidents. Backup solutions provide the only reliable way to restore normalcy, ensuring business continuity and safeguarding an organization’s operations.

TAM: What improvements have you seen in data protection and email security since using Acronis?

Prashant Mudbidri: The granularity of the backup and restore mechanisms provided by Acronis is a key strength that our customers rely on as their MSSP. They expect us to perform regular health checks to ensure everything is functioning smoothly. Have we tested our fallback mechanisms? Do we conduct frequent restore drills with our customers? Absolutely. These efforts provide them with the confidence and assurance that, even in the face of a disaster, their business operations will remain seamless and in excellent condition.

TAM: Can you share an example where Acronis solutions have helped prevent or mitigate a data or security issue?

Prashant Mudbidri: One of our largest customers, who runs a significant number of workloads on Azure, encountered an issue—not exactly an Azure outage, but an incident that required an alternative setup to be created and restored. This is where the power of Acronis came into play. With Acronis, the customer was able to restore the setup within hours, ensuring uninterrupted business continuity for their users. This incident reaffirmed the customer’s confidence, demonstrating that even in challenging situations, they could rely on their backup solutions to keep operations running smoothly.

In the past, the customer had experienced issues with other solutions, where backups failed to restore to the exact point needed. Such incidents eroded their confidence, leading them to question the value of backups: What’s the point of taking backups if they can’t restore to the desired state This successful restoration with Acronis, however, turned things around, restoring trust and proving the critical importance of a reliable backup solution.

TAM: How has Acronis impacted your team’s productivity or reduced IT overhead?

Prashant Mudbidri: I would describe it as a form of insurance. In any IT setup, updates and upgrades are necessary for maintenance, but backup is something fundamental. The moment you have a backup, you gain the assurance that even if an operation or activity doesn’t go as planned and something goes wrong, there’s a contingency plan in place to restore things to normal. That’s the key takeaway for IT operations. While backups may not reduce the number of tickets, they provide the critical assurance that disruptions can be mitigated, ensuring the customer’s business operations remain unaffected.

TAM: What future needs or goals do you see Acronis helping Logix achieve?

Prashant Mudbidri: Just as Microsoft once envisioned placing a desktop on every desk and a Windows machine in every office, we should have a similar vision. As customers increasingly adopt cloud solutions—whether Azure, GCP, AWS, or productivity tools like Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace, they must understand the importance of backups. It’s essential to educate them that backups should exist independently of their service provider. This ensures they can restore their data anytime, anywhere, and to the precise state needed.

One significant challenge in the Indian subcontinent is the loss of critical data when employees resign and delete their files before leaving. This data is vital for the organization’s continuity and success. Backup is the only reliable mechanism to safeguard and recover such critical information. Our vision should focus on empowering and educating customers about the importance of backup as a fundamental insurance policy for their business, ensuring resilience and continuity.
