Google Maps Flyover Call Outs Won’t Help Clear Confusion: Rohan Verma

Rohan Verma, CEO and Executive Director, MapMyIndia has called out the Google Maps’ “take the flyover feature”, saying this feature would not be helpful for Indian roads. Google Maps, which is often criticised by drivers for suggesting incorrect routes and for not being clear while suggesting taking by-lanes and flyovers recently announced a new feature. Lalitha Ramani, the general manager of Google Maps India announced in a press conference held on 25 July that the new flyover call out feature would suggest drivers beforehand if they would like to take the flyover or the service lane next to it.

“Flyover guidance has been one of the most requested features from our users, we have heard you and acted on it,” she said. Rohan Verma, however, feels that Indian drivers require more assistance. “There are many types of flyovers and confusion junctions on Indian roads. Just saying ‘take the flyover, or not, won’t remove confusion for drivers! The best maps app experience is in showing 3D junction views of upcoming flyovers and complex junction views is the RIGHT way to solve the problem. Use the Mappls MapmyIndia app – India’s own, and leading, app for hyperlocal maps, navigation, safety, mobility and so much more,” he said on his LinkedIN post while stating that MapMyIndia has better capabilities than all other maps.

Why MapMyIndia is Better Than Google Maps

Rohan Verma says that MapmyIndia not only has 3D view, but also assists users with speed breakers, potholes, fallen trees and other such objects. The service includes house-level address search and Mappls Pin, ensuring users can navigate to their exact destination every time. The enhanced navigation system of MapMyIndia aims to reduce travel time and fuel consumption by providing the most efficient routes.

In addition to that, MapMyIndia offers drivers with the ability to reach their destination without needing to constantly look at their phone. Voice-guided directions and intuitive interface design ensure that users can keep their eyes on the road while receiving clear, step-by-step instructions. MapMyIndia also adds that the data of users would “never leave the India boundary”. “As a 100% Indian, Swadeshi company with Headquarters in New Delhi, India, we have the most air-tight security systems to ensure your complete protection. All your data is strictly confidential and stored on Indian servers only,” says MapMyIndia.
