India Leads Discussion on Responsible AI: Ashwini Vaishnaw

The transformative impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on global societies has been underscored by India’s commitment to responsible AI development and application. Inaugurating the Global India AI Summit at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighted AI’s potential across diverse sectors and stressed the need for responsible advancement.

“The last year has been momentous in AI’s journey, demonstrating its potential in transforming everything from content consumption to industrial processes,” remarked Ashwini Vaishnaw. He emphasized the enthusiasm surrounding AI’s ability to reshape daily life, business operations, and societal structures.

Recognizing AI as a potent tool for economic and social progress, India aims to address associated risks through global collaboration. The Global India AI Summit serves as a platform to share insights and formulate strategies. “We must mitigate risks such as disinformation and misuse of AI, especially during critical events like elections,” Ashwini Vaishnaw affirmed.

India’s initiative includes establishing a public platform offering compute power, high-quality datasets, and unified technical and legal frameworks. This initiative aims to accelerate AI innovations across sectors like agriculture, healthcare, and education, empowering startups, entrepreneurs, and academics.

Reflecting on international efforts, Minister Vaishnaw highlighted collaborations with organizations like the United Nations and OECD to ensure a cohesive global approach to AI governance. “Through platforms like ‘The Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence’ we are laying the groundwork for responsible AI use worldwide,” he noted.

The summit’s agenda will highlight essential aspects of the AI landscape, such as computing capabilities, foundational models, datasets, application development, future skills, startup funding, and ensuring safe and reliable AI. India, in its role as the Lead Chair of the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI), will convene member nations and experts to further GPAI’s mission of promoting secure and trustworthy AI. The Global IndiaAI Summit aims to provide a forum for global AI leaders from various sectors including science, industry, civil society, government, international organizations, and academia to share perspectives on critical AI topics and obstacles.
