    ISRO Free Online Course on Space Exploration Announced for School Students, Certificates too be Given

    ISRO free online course has been announced for students from Indian and abroad for grade 9 to 12. The Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) called “Overview of Space Exploration” is being conducted by the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS).  ISRO says that the objective of the ISRO free online course is to provide knowledge and awareness to school students on various aspects of Space Science and technology. The technical sessions of the course will be conducted for students by eminent space scientists of India. The course is free and open to all the students of age 10 years and above from India and abroad.

    The organisation also adds that the course participation certificate from IIRS ISRO will also be given to participants based on their attendance in technical sessions and their performance in the online quiz assessment. To qualify for the certificate, participants must achieve a minimum score of 60% in the quiz and maintain at least 70% attendance in the video sessions. The course will be conducted from 5 June to 4 August 2024. 

    What the ISRO Free Online Course Will Cover?

    ISRO says that participants of the course will receive an understanding of the various challenges due to climate change and how Earth orbit can play an important role in their monitoring and scientific understanding of the process. Some of the topics that will be covered as part of the course are as follows:

    • Space: what and how to explore.
    • Rockets to access the space.
    • Space exploration platforms.
    • Astronomy from space.
    • Solar and Heliophysics from space.
    • Minor bodies in the Solar System.
    • Exploration of planets and satellites.
    • Near-Earth Space and Sun-Earth connection.
    • Mission design and operation for space science exploration.
    • Archival of the space science data.

    Important Details for Students

    Interested students can register for the course at present since online applications are being accepted since 21 May 2024. The course will be available online from 5 June to 4 August 2024, and the last date to register will be 20 July 2024. The course will be delivered in English, and a total of 10 hours online video sessions will be conducted. Students can also download the PDF version of study material for future reference from the e-class portal or IIRS. Upon completing the video session, students will have to participate in the quiz assessment.
