Sandeep Bhambure, VP and MD, Veeam Software, Calls for Attention Towards India’s Growing Data Security Challenges

At the recent VeeamOn Tour India event in Delhi, Sandeep Bhambure, Vice President and Managing Director of Veeam Software, delivered a compelling keynote that accentuated the critical importance of data protection and resilience in the face of growing cyber threats. Speaking to an audience that included dignitaries from the government, private and public sector, Bhambure emphasized the unique challenges India faces as a rapidly expanding digital economy.

Bhambure began by acknowledging the vast scale of data management required by the government, which serves 1.4 billion citizens. He drew parallels between the strategic demands of data protection and his own upbringing in a military household, noting that defense strategies are crucial not just in warfare, but in safeguarding digital assets as well.

“The government has 1.4 billion customers. The perspective that you get from so many dignitaries here is as enriching for me and my team as it is for you,” Bhambure remarked. He highlighted the increasing complexity and sophistication of cyber attacks, pointing out that 75% of organizations faced cyber incidents in the past year alone, with the frequency and intensity of these attacks on the rise.

Bhambure stressed the importance of adopting a robust defensive strategy for data protection, especially in a country like India, where the economy is expected to grow by $4 trillion over the next few years, driving an unprecedented explosion in data volume. He noted that India’s rapid digital expansion poses unique challenges, particularly given the country’s complex geopolitical landscape and the growing sophistication of phishing and ransomware attacks.

“Data resilience is the single most important priority for every organization today,” Bhambure asserted. He detailed Veeam’s comprehensive approach to data protection, which includes pre-incident best practices, real-time response during incidents, and post-incident recovery strategies. This holistic approach, he explained, is designed to ensure that businesses can quickly recover from attacks and maintain continuity.

Bhambure also highlighted Veeam’s leadership in the data protection industry, with over 550,000 customers worldwide and a significant presence in India. “We are the most invested company in the space of data protection in India,” he said, emphasizing Veeam’s extensive partner ecosystem and the company’s commitment to empowering businesses with the tools and knowledge needed to achieve data resilience.

Bhambure further went to reiterate the need for organizations to prioritize data security in the face of evolving threats. “It’s not about if, it’s about when,” he cautioned, urging businesses to adopt Veeam’s industry-leading solutions to safeguard their digital assets.
