On the occasion of the 33rd Foundation Day of the Software Technology Parks of India (STPI), S Krishnan, Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India, emphasized India’s ambition to become a prominent product nation. During the celebrations, he unveiled a comprehensive knowledge report titled “Cutting-Edge Tech Forging India as a Software Product Nation,” compiled by STPI officials. This report aims to serve as a catalyst for transforming India into a new hub for innovation and entrepreneurship.
In his address, Krishnan articulated the strategic importance of this ambition: “Becoming a product nation is an ambition that India has. India needs to own a lot of the intellectual property because ultimately, that is where all the benefits and most of the profits go to.”

Krishnan highlighted India’s current global standing: “Today, India is seen globally as the place from which most of the IT services are delivered. We are also recognized as the creators and deliverers of most of the Digital Public Infrastructures.”
He further emphasized the transformative potential of networking and connectivity: “Thanks to the possibilities of networking, of connectivity, and being in virtual spaces, you can recreate whatever you get in a major city even in a smaller location elsewhere in the country. That is something STPI is doing today.”
Acknowledging the pivotal role of STPI, he stated: “STPI needs to become a mentorship platform for many of the young and expectant entrants to the startup industry and enable them to grow.”
He also underscored the convergence of software and hardware in the modern technological landscape: “We are in a world today where software and hardware are converging. We need to scale up what can be done and how it can be operated.”
The newly unveiled report is expected to guide and inspire stakeholders across the tech ecosystem, providing a roadmap for India to emerge as a global leader in software product innovation. As India continues to advance its digital infrastructure and foster a robust startup environment, initiatives like these are crucial in propelling the nation towards its ambitious goals.
