Zomato, popular Indian multinational restaurant aggregator and food delivery company, recently announced a new initiative. The company has now made available large order fleets to serve a gathering of 50 people. Earlier, customers would have to resort to multiple bookings when such demands came up as a single delivery boy could deliver only limited orders.
This would be India’s first large order fleets, and has been designed to handle all large gatherings such as groups, parties, or events. The electric fleet can serve orders of up t0 50 people. “Such large orders were earlier served by multiple regular fleet delivery partners, and the customer experience wasn’t what we really aspired for. These new vehicles should solve most of the problems our customers face while placing large orders on Zomato,” said Deepinder Goyal, founder, Zomato.

Although it does seem like an exciting initiative, it may take some time for the service to roll-out entirely. “Having said that, these vehicles are still “work in progress”, and we are in the process of adding important enhancements to them – like cooling compartments, and hot boxes with temperature control – to ensure everything arrives just the way you like,” adds Goyal on social media platform X.
What Consumers Feel about Zomato Large Order Fleets
While consumers feel this could be a good initiative, some of them are expressing concerns on whether this would be successful as Indian consumers turn to caterers for large orders. “Well it’s very unusual to witness food being ordered from a restaurants especially for gatherings of up to
50 people. They would choose caterers. So may be for a group of 10-15 this might be helpful,” says one such view on X. “Just thinking about the Taxes, Charges for Handling and Delivery charges imposed on such orders. Nowadays due to high Delivery charges, I have seen people opting for other apps or outdoor visits,” says Aryan Sharma on the fee being imposed for delivery by Zomato.
“Fleet is ok, but is it for a pre-planned group order or the same selection mode as done for regular order. It will be good if renowned caterers category are added with advance order,” says another view. However, the idea may work and does seem to be unique, say other consumers, as no other platform is offering such services at present.
