Digi Yatra, the facial recognition app that has been widely acknowledged by travellers across the country, has undergone a surprising updation. The surprising revelation came to the fore after several users were unable to access the app while they were trying to check into the airport. In addition to this, users have also been asked to download a new app from App Store or Play Store instead of updating the old one.
Several users, upset with this development, shared their experience on Twitter. “Digiyatra Shipped the new app instead of update, the old app was showing no internet. In the cab I was trying to upload a boarding pass because I am always running late. Went to the Play Store and saw a new app, installed and worked. Just WOW,” says a user Ali Mustafa.
“Strange on part of Digi Yatra Foundation, they disable old app/switch to new app without advertising of the said change. This deals with biometric data of millions of citizens is terrifying. I discovered this today when unable to log in. Very eerie,” tweeted Captain Minal Chakraborty along the same lines.
Users who re-downloaded the app were asked to enter all their details again, and all the data regarding their previous travel had been removed from the app. “Digiyatra. Just when I need it at the airport it needs an update. After the update u have to re-enter details of verifiable ID . Whats the use of an app that works like a webpage. Although the idea is fantastic , the execution is inefficient,” says a user Kanchan Ambaskar.
Along the same lines, a user Prabhu Tej said: “The transition handled the worst. I have lost all my old travel history data post upgrading the app. Even I was forced to uninstall the app and reinstall. I had to do all the authentication process and also register my identity process as well.”
What Digi Yatra Has to Say about the Incident
Digi Yatra, explaining its stance on this development, said: “We regret any inconvenience caused due to the upgradation of the Digi Yatra app. This upgrade is part of our ongoing effort to improve our services, as our commitment to enhancing the travel experience among users remains undeterred. While we understand your concern, rest assured that these apps belong to Digi Yatra Foundation and we are working to ensure that the transition from the OLD to NEW App is seamless. Our team is actively addressing any issues that may have arisen due to this upgrade. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this process.”
