    ISRO Invites Applications from Students for Free Online Course on Space Science

    ISRO, through its institute the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), has announced a free online course called Space science and Technology Awareness Training (START) for students. The course will be conducted from 15 April to 3 May 2024, and under-graduate and post-graduate students of science and technology may opt for this program. Students that successfully complete the course will be provided certificates from ISRO.

    Registrations for the course will begin from 8 April and will end by 12 April 2024. Students can opt for the course either individually, or may also take up through their institute if it is a nodal centre of IIRS. With regard to the course, ISRO has solicited expression of interest to host the Space Science and Technology Awareness Training (START) -2024 in educational institutes, universities or colleges within India who are offering undergraduate or postgraduate courses in physical sciences and technology.

    What the ISRO Free Online Course Will Cover?

    The course is being offered in a bid to help young students gain interest in the fields of space science and technology. The training modules will comprise introductory level topics on various verticals of space science and technology such as:

    • Planetary science and exploration.
    • Astronomy and astrophysics.
    • Heliophysics.
    • Sun-earth interaction.
    • Atmospheric science.
    • Research driven by microgravity platforms arising as part of the new human space program.

    Who Can Apply for  the ISRO Free Online Course Will Cover?

    Post-graduate students and final year under graduate students of physical sciences and technology studying in educational institutes, universities and colleges within India in the following subjects are eligible to apply:

    • Physics.
    • Chemistry.
    • Electronics.
    • Computer science.
    • Mechanical.
    • Applied physics.
    • Radiophysics.
    • Optics and opto-electronics.
    • Instrumentation and other associated subjects.

    How to Apply for the ISRO Free Online Course?

    Interested students can either apply through the IIRS website or through the nodal centre before 12 April 2024. The host institutes will need to select eligible candidates, who are studying in the institutes, depending on their aptitude and academic performance. Those who wish to receive certificates will have to ensure at least 70 percent attendance and 50 percent marks in the exams.
