Indian Government Warns Citizens on Operation Sindoor Misinformation, Here’s the Truth

Operation Sindoor, which was conducted by the Indian Army in retaliation to the Pahalgam attack, has sent shockwaves across the world. While the Government of India and Indian Army are being appreciated for the mission, spurious elements and pro-Pakistan handles from across the border are spreading misinformation on the Operation Sindoor. The Government of India has dispelled the incorrect information being shared, and has advised citizens to exercise caution and follow only verified Government of India handles to avoid panic.

False Information on Operation Sindoor Being Shared

The PIB Fact Check Handle, which is being operated by the Indian Government, has called out a few fake tweets that are being circulated on social media platform X. Here are a few:

    • An outdated image of a crashed aircraft is being reshared by pro-Pakistan accounts in the context of Operation Sindoor. The image actually pertains to a previous incident involving an Indian Air Force (IAF) MiG-29 fighter jet that went down in Barmer, Rajasthan, in September 2024.
    • Social media posts are circulating false claims that Pakistan has destroyed an Indian Brigade Headquarters. This information is untrue. The Indian Government has urged citizens to avoid spreading unverified content and rely on official updates from the Government of India for accurate and reliable information.
    • A video being circulated by several pro-Pakistan accounts falsely claims that the Pakistan Air Force targeted the Srinagar airbase. However, the video is neither recent nor from India. It is actually footage from sectarian clashes that occurred in 2024 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan.
    • An image of an advisory is circulating online, claiming that the Indian Government has recommended precautionary measures and the stocking of essential items at home. This claim is false, the Government has clarified and has added that no such advisory has been issued officially. Asking the citizens to stay alert, the officials are requesting citizens to only rely on official government sources for accurate information and refrain from sharing unverified claims.
