    Tata Group Announces 1 Crore Compensation for Air India Crash Victims

    The Air India Crash at Ahmedabad has sent shockwaves across the country. The ill-fated AI 171, which was flying from Ahmedabad to London, took the lives of 241 people on board and several on ground. An outpouring of condolences on social media continues as millions of people across the globe share their grief over the highly unfortunate incident that has shook the world. Tata Group has issued a statement on the incident.

    “We are deeply anguished by the tragic event involving Air India Flight 171. No words can adequately express the grief we feel at this moment. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families who have lost their loved ones, and with those who have been injured,” said N Chandrasekaran, Chairman, Tata Sons. 

    The flight, which departed from Ahmedabad at 1:38 PM, was carrying 242 passengers and crew members on board the Boeing 787-8 aircraft. Out of 242, 169 were Indian nationals, 53 were British nationals, 1 Canadian national and 7 Portuguese nationals. Only one passenger survived the Air India crash. The plane unfortunately crashed into the hostel mess of BJ Medical College, which lead to the loss of several young doctors on ground.

    Tata Group will provide Rs 1 crore to the families of each person who has lost their life in this tragedy. We will also cover the medical expenses of those injured and ensure that they receive all necessary care and support. Additionally, we will provide support in the building up of the B J Medical’s hostel. We remain steadfast in standing with the affected families and communities during this unimaginable time,” added  N Chandrasekaran on the Air India crash. 

    Air India has shared dedicated passenger hotline numbers for Indian passengers which is 1800 5691 444, and +91 8062779200 for calls outside India. They have also requested only the families of victims to contact the hotline numbers, and requested media and others to avoid using the helpline.
