Networking technology company Ciena has appointed Grant Hoffman as its new Chief Supply Chain Officer, strengthening its leadership team at a time when demand for high-performance networking infrastructure continues to rise amid growing adoption of artificial intelligence (AI). Hoffman will report directly to Ciena President and CEO Gary Smith and will serve as a member of the company’s Executive Leadership Team. His appointment comes as enterprises and service providers invest heavily in network modernization to support AI-driven workloads, placing increased emphasis on supply chain agility, operational efficiency, and execution.
Announcing his new role, Hoffman said he was looking forward to helping the company scale its operations and strengthen customer delivery capabilities. “I’m proud to announce that I’ve joined Ciena as Chief Supply Chain Officer. Ciena is at an important moment, with strong demand for high-performance networking driven by AI, alongside a global environment that requires supply chains to be more strategic than ever. I’m energized by the opportunity to help drive operational scale, strengthen execution, and ensure we deliver for customers in a dynamic and increasingly complex landscape. Prior to joining Ciena, Hoffman served as Senior Vice President, Operations & Solutions Delivery at HP, where he oversaw a global organisation of approximately 10,000 employees across more than 100 countries. He joined HP following its $3.3 billion acquisition of Poly and held leadership responsibilities across customer delivery, support, field and channel operations, warranty services, payment solutions and customer experience. Earlier, he served as Senior Vice President and General Manager of HP Renew, where he was responsible for building the company’s renew solutions business, covering product management, operations, financing, circularity initiatives and digital solutions.
Before HP, Hoffman was Executive Vice President and Chief Supply Chain Officer at Poly, where he led end-to-end supply chain operations and drove a global digital transformation programme. His previous experience also includes leadership roles at Lenovo, where he headed supply chain operations for the company’s $6 billion mobile devices business, and at Google-owned Motorola Mobility, where he managed global operations and oversaw billions of dollars in annual material spend. During his tenure, he played a key role in supply chain transformation initiatives, outsourcing strategies, inventory optimisation and strategic customer programmes.
Hoffman began building his supply chain leadership credentials through a series of senior roles at Motorola and Continental Automotive Systems, focusing on business operations, planning, forecasting and global supply chain management. Commenting on his appointment, Hoffman said the timing was particularly significant as AI continues to fuel demand for advanced networking technologies. “It is an exciting time to join Ciena as AI continues to drive significant demand for high-performance network infrastructure, where the company holds a clear leadership position,” said Hoffman. “Ciena has built a highly capable supply chain with a strong and trusted reputation for execution. I look forward to scaling these operations and further strengthening delivery for our customers.”
