Samsung Electronics CEO Han Jong-Hee has reportedly passed away on the morning of 25 March 2025 at the age of 63. He died from a cardiac arrest, and the unfortunate development has been confirmed by a spokesperson of the company. Han Jong-Hee had taken over as the CEO of the company in 2022, and was also in charge of the consumer electronics and mobile devices division.
He was also one of the board members of the South Korean giant. Han Jong-Hee was named the co-CEO after Kwon Oh-hyun abruptly resigned from the leadership role. In 2012, Kwon Oh-hyun took on the role of CEO at Samsung Electronics. He stepped down in 2017, describing the situation as an “unprecedented crisis.” His resignation paved the way for a leadership model featuring three co-CEOs, which remained in place until 2021. That year, following a company-wide restructuring, Kyung Kye-Hyun and Han Jong-hee were appointed as the new CEOs.
Han Jong-hee was largely credited for elevating Samsung’s television business. His untimely demise is set to pose challenges for Samsung Electronics as it grapples with fierce competition in the semiconductor and consumer electronics market.
