Siemens CEO Agustin Escobar and his entire family passed away earlier today in a tragic helicopter crash in New York City. Agustin Escobar, his wife, Merce Camprubi Montal, and their children aged 4, 5 and 11 years old along with the pilot of the helicopter lost their lives when the tourist helicopter they were travelling on plunged into New York City’s Hudson River. The tragic news has sent shockwaves across the industry. The identity of the pilot has not yet been ascertained.
Agustin Escobar had taken over as the President and CEO of Siemens in Spain in November 2022. Prior to assuming the role of CEO, Agustin Escobar was the CEO of Siemens Mobility Spain and Southwest Europe. He succeeded Miguel Ángel López as Siemens CEO Spain. Miguel Ángel López had spoken highly about Escobar at the time saying, “With Agustín Escobar, we have the best possible successor to lead the company in Spain going forward. In recent years, his work has been key to Siemens’ success in the field of mobility and transportation.”

The late Siemens CEO, who met an untimely demise, had an illustrious career spanning over two decades of international experience with the company, particularly in the infrastructure, energy, and mobility sectors. His leadership journey included serving as CEO of Siemens Mobility Spain since 2018, a role that was expanded to encompass the Southwest Europe region in December 2019.
Previously, he held several significant positions within Siemens, including CEO of the Energy Management division in Latin America from 2014 to 2018 and CEO of the Infrastructure and Cities sector in the same region from 2012 to 2014. Before these roles, he served as Corporate Director of Strategy and International Business Development in North America, overseeing operations in the United States, Canada, and Central America. His earlier contributions also included various key roles in Spain’s energy sector between 1998 and 2010
