Ashwini Kumar Choudhary Joins RBL Bank as Chief Risk Officer-Designate

Banking and risk management veteran Ashwini Kumar Choudhary has joined RBL Bank as Chief Risk Officer-Designate, bringing with him more than 27 years of experience across public sector banks, private lenders and non-banking financial companies. Announcing the development, Choudhary shared, “I am pleased to inform that after an exciting and wonderful time as Group Chief Risk Officer with Union Bank of India, I am starting my new journey as Chief Risk Officer-Designate with RBL Bank.”

His appointment comes at a time when banks are strengthening their risk management frameworks amid evolving regulatory requirements, increasing digital adoption and a rapidly changing credit environment. Prior to joining RBL Bank, Choudhary served as Group Chief Risk Officer at Union Bank of India, where he spent over three years overseeing enterprise-wide risk management across market, operational and credit risk functions. Over the course of a career spanning nearly three decades, he has built expertise in credit risk, market risk, operational risk and corporate banking, holding leadership positions across some of India’s leading financial institutions.

Before his stint at Union Bank of India, Choudhary spent more than a decade at Tata Cleantech Capital Limited, where he first served as Head-Credit and later took over as Chief Risk Officer, leading the company’s risk strategy during a period of significant growth in sustainable financing. Earlier, he worked as Head Risk at Srei Infrastructure Finance Limited, managing organisation-wide credit, market and operational risk functions. His professional journey also includes leadership roles at HSBC as Vice President-Risk, HDFC Bank as Senior Manager-Risk, and Bank of Baroda, where he spent over eight years handling credit for large corporates, SMEs, corporate banking and credit administration.

With experience across public sector banking, multinational financial institutions, private banks and specialised NBFCs, Choudhary brings a diverse perspective to enterprise risk management. His appointment is expected to further strengthen RBL Bank’s risk governance framework as the bank continues to focus on sustainable growth, portfolio quality and regulatory compliance while expanding its retail and commercial banking businesses. Choudhary’s transition also reflects the increasing importance financial institutions are placing on seasoned risk professionals who can navigate evolving market dynamics while balancing growth with prudent risk management.
