In a move that highlights difficult times for “independent” enthusiast brands, reports suggest that Oppo has officially consolidated OnePlus and Realme into a single internal business unit. The OnePlus Realme merger, confirmed by internal documents and industry leaks this morning, effectively ends years of the brands operating as distinct, often competing, cousins under the BBK Electronics umbrella.

The decision has likely been taken by Oppo as a measure against tightening global smartphone market, rising R&D costs, and a strategic withdrawal from several European territories. According to Q2 FY25 data, OnePlus, Realme, Poco, and Xiaomi were seem to be losing market share, while Apple was being projected to command the highest order value. The latest market share trends showed vivo maintaining a leading position with a 16.5% share, supported by a strong 19.0% growth and an impressive 23.5% overall increase. Samsung followed with a 12.9% share, also witnessing steady growth at 14.5% and a 21.0% rise.

New Leadership Changes Post OnePlus Realme Merger
The leaked reports also suggest that while both brands will maintain their public-facing logos and separate marketing identities post the OnePlus Realme merger, the internal leadership will have to work together. According to reports, the following will be the new power structure:
- A new “sub-series product center” has been established to handle hardware development for both brands. It will be led by Li Jie who is currently the President of OnePlus China, and will now report directly to Pete Lau, Oppo’s Chief Product Officer and OnePlus founder.
- Li Bingzhong (Sky Li), the founder of Realme, will head a unified division for marketing, after-sales, and commercial operations.
Apart from this, the leadership has also reportedly signaled an increased focus on the “reuse of product lines.” This move, is true, would mean more “rebadged” phones where a Realme device in one market becomes a OnePlus Nord in another. This practice was already seen becoming common with the recently launched OnePlus Nord CE 6 Lite, which is a carbon copy of the Realme P4X.
